Semiclassical geons as solitonic black hole remnants

2013

We find that the end state of black hole evaporation could be represented by non-singular and without event horizon stable solitonic remnants with masses of the order the Planck scale and up to similar to 16 units of charge. Though these objects are locally indistinguishable from spherically symmetric, massive electric (or magnetic) charges, they turn out to be sourceless geons containing a wormhole generated by the electromagnetic field. Our results are obtained by interpreting semiclassical corrections to Einstein's theory in the first-order (Palatini) formalism, which yields second-order equations and avoids the instabilities of the usual (metric) formulation of quadratic gravity. We als…

The electromagnetic field of an accelerated charge in the proper reference frame of a noninertial observer

1989

The Lienard-Wiechert formulae for the electric and magnetic fields of an accelerated charge moving along an arbitrary world-line are generalized so that they can be applied by noninertial observers using accelerating and rotating reference frames. For this purpose, a relativistic coordinate-independent formalism suggested by DeFacio, Dennis and Eetzloff is extended to the description of all kinematical aspects required in the theory of the retarded fields of a point charge. The generalized Lienard-Wiechert formula is applied to a number of special situations, demonstrating that it allows a lucid and concise treatment of a number of subtle problems such as the role of the «relativity of acce…

SEAI: Social Emotional Artificial Intelligence Based on Damasio’s Theory of Mind

2018

A socially intelligent robot must be capable to extract meaningful information in real-time from the social environment and react accordingly with coherent human-like behaviour. Moreover, it should be able to internalise this information, to reason on it at a higher abstract level, build its own opinions independently and then automatically bias the decision-making according to its unique experience. In the last decades, neuroscience research highlighted the link between the evolution of such complex behaviour and the evolution of a certain level of consciousness, which cannot leave out of a body that feels emotions as discriminants and prompters. In order to develop cognitive systems for s…

Two-Step Solution-Processed Two-Component Bilayer Phthalocyaninato Copper-Based Heterojunctions with Interesting Ambipolar Organic Transiting and Eth…

2016

International audience; The two-component phthalocyaninato copper-based heterojunctions fabricated from n-type CuPc(COOC8H17)(8) and p-type CuPc(OC8H17)(8) by a facile two-step solution-processing quasi-Langmuir-Shafer method with both n/p- and p/n-bilayer structures are revealed to exhibit typical ambipolar air-stable organic thin-film transistor (OTFT) performance. The p/n-bilayer devices constructed by depositing CuPc(COOC8H17)(8) film on CuPc(OC8H17)(8) sub-layer show superior OTFT performance with hole and electron mobility of 0.11 and 0.02 cm(2) V-1 s(-1), respectively, over the ones with n/p-bilayer heterojunction structure with the hole and electron mobility of 0.03 and 0.016 cm(2) …

Measurement of white wines resistance against oxidation by Electron Paramagnetic Resonance spectroscopy

2018

International audience; Free radical theory of aging hypothesizes that oxygen-derived radicals are responsible for the storage-related flavor instability in wine. In an optimal situation, a balanced-distribution exists between oxidants and antioxidants among wines intrinsic/extrinsic metabolites. Based on the kinetic study of POBN-1-hydroxyethyl spin adduct (POBN-1-HER) formation in wines initiated via the Fenton reaction, a novel tool based on EPR spin trapping methodology was developed to quantify wines resistance against oxidation. Antioxidant capacities of wines were evaluated according to POBN-1-HER maximum signal intensity (Imax POBN-1-HER) and rate formation (r(POBN-1-HER)) kinetic p…

Эмануэль Гринберг - выдающиеся достижения в прикладной математике: радио-фильтры, корпуса танкеров, графы и интегральные схемы Emanuels Grinbergs - i…

2018

The paper is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Grinberg theorem. The main works of Emanuel Grinberg (1911-1982) in applied mathematics are described, following the stages of his life path, namely: the design of radio receivers and the calculation of radio filters (1949-1959), hull of tanker calculations (1962-1964), the study of graph theory and the proof of the Grinberg theorem (1968), designing of integrated circuits (1968-1980). Calculations of radio filters are associated with the expansion of the use of continued fractions for the analysis of linear electric circuits (the Kauer model) and the developing of new tools – the Grinberg brackets (as an extension of the Euler brackets)…

The effect of (negative) emotion on pro-environmental behavior : an application of the theory of planned behavior

2016

With climate change becoming ever-present as a huge environmental issue for the modern era to address, pro-environmental behavior (PEB) is becoming an increasingly relevant area. There seems to be a divergence between how different actors try and encourage PEB when using emotion as the motivational tool. Therefore, the current study aimed to explore this effect of (negative) emotion on decision making. The Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) was used as the theoretical framework, with the primary research aim testing whether emotion affects the theory, and if this is a direct effect on intentions. Within the existing research, environmental values are also found to be potentially linked with t…

Vocational training and moral judgement

1998

Abstract Since Carol Gilligan (1982) presented her conception of “two morals”, several empirical studies have been carried out to verify her assumption that the moral reasoning of men and women generally follows different principles. These research findings led to an examination of gender-specific traits in a sample of insurance apprentices. The data suggest that Gilligan’s assumption cannot be upheld although the detailed analysis of moral reasoning and the conditions of its development seem to be gender-biased. Gender differences in moral judgments should not be dealt with as a matter of the quality of moral reasoning (“different voice-hypothesis”), but rather as a matter of perceiving so…

Towards a broader perspective on the forms of eco-industrial networks

2014

Abstract This paper explores various forms of eco-industrial networks in advancing environmental sustainability. Prior research on environmental sustainability primarily identifies industrial actors as autonomous entities or considers the role of networks in advancing environmental sustainability from a rather narrow perspective. However, the networks of ties in which industrial firms are embedded profoundly impacts not only their own performance, but also the natural environment in which they operate. Based on a systematic literature review, we identify four forms of eco-industrial networks that have the potential to advance environmental sustainability: 1) symbiosis networks, 2) sustainab…

Exploring individual personality factors as drivers of M‐shopping acceptance

2009

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to evaluate how personality variables related to technology (innovativeness, compatibility and affinity) can modify the influence of classical technology acceptance model (TAM) variables on behavioural adoption intention of mobile shopping.Design/methodology/approachThe impact of innovativeness, compatibility, affinity, TAM beliefs (ease of use and usefulness) and attitude on mobile shopping adoption is tested through structural equation modelling techniques. The sample consisted of 470 Spanish mobile telephone users selected on the basis of convenience.FindingsData analysis shows that the effect of perceived usefulness and, in a minor degree, perceived e…
